Eric Magayne
Nicolet Area Technical College
Liberal Arts Transfer, 2003
Platform Systems Engineer, Rockwell Collins
Eric entered Nicolet Area Technical College as a high school senior through the Youth Options Program. He wanted to get a jumpstart on college and save on tuition expenses at the same time. Eventually, all his credits from Nicolet transferred to the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Mechanics and Astronautics.
Now Eric designs, develops, and tests avionics software for the United States Army’s CH-47F Chinook cargo helicopter.
"Mark Nebgen in the chemistry department taught me the structural composition of the aerospace components that I work with every day," Eric states. "He was a mentor and now is a life-long friend. The people at Nicolet encouraged me to perform at the highest level, and brought out the best in me."
Kyle McLaughlin
Nicolet Area Technical College
Liberal Arts Transfer, 2005
Water Resources Management Specialist,
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
Kyle enrolled at Nicolet Area Technical College to prepare for transfer to the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He was able to live at home, work part-time and save money while completing requirements for a seamless transfer into the Natural Resources Program.
"The courses offered at Nicolet were thought-provoking, and the small class sizes made it very easy to get to know your instructors. This combination allowed me the opportunity to hone the disciplinary and study skills I needed to be focused and successful at UWSP," Kyle says.
Currently, Kyle works for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and is working toward a master’s degree in Natural Resources Management.
Brian Buchberger
Nicolet Area Technical College
Liberal Arts Transfer, 1991
Owner and Doctor, Animal Health Care Center
Brian found himself unsatisfied with a career in electronics. He enrolled at Nicolet Area Technical College in classes that fit into his work and family life.
"The personalized level of instruction was also very helpful, especially after being out of school for a number of years. The experience gave me the confidence to pursue the education I needed in order to reach my goals," Brian recalls.
Eventually, he fulfilled his dreams of becoming a doctor of veterinary medicine and opened his own animal clinic. "Without Nicolet College, I doubt I would have been able to achieve my career goals."
